SALINA, Kan. – After finishing within the top three at every meet this season, the McPherson Girls were able to bring home gold for the first time on Friday, as they competed against ten other schools in a meet hosted by Salina South.
Adyson Wiens had another successful day in the pool, claiming 4th in the 100 butterfly and qualifying for state. She also finished 4th in the 50 freestyle, less than three seconds behind Danica Brunk who finished 1st in the 50, as well as 500 freestyle. Brunk and Wiens would join Claire Schmidt and Clarea Williams for the 200 medley relay, where they would take 2nd. Schmidt would also take 2nd in the 100 backstroke, and Williams would record a state consideration time in the 100 freestyle.
Gracie Hubbard and Bree Pickerell would join Wiens and Brunk to claim 2nd in the 400 freestyle, while Ella Schrag, Adrien Lockard, would join Schmidt and Williams, taking 2nd in the 200 freestyle.
“This was our first win of the season and the girls swam really well.” noted Head Coach Angela Brunk following the meet, “Most of the girls swam best times or close to their best times, so that is always exciting to see.”
The McPherson area swimmers will return to action Tuesday, when they compete in Hutchinson for a meet beginning at 3:30 p.m.
