WINFIELD, Kan. (macbulldogs.com) — Extra innings were needed in both games Saturday (Apr. 22), and both times the McPherson College Bulldogs exploded offensively to complete the sweep of the Southwestern College Moundbuilders in Winfield, Kan.

Down to their last out in the opener, the Moundbuilders tied the ballgame to send it to extra innings. But from there, it was all Bulldogs as they scored five runs in the eighth to secure the 7-3 victory.

Raegan Kleppe struck out five batters in eight innings of work while allowing two runs on eight hits.

The Moundbuilders took an early 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the first, but Tatyana Alvarado answered with a sacrifice fly in the next half-inning to bring home Summer Garcia.

That score would hold until the top of the fifth when Lauren Skinner hit a lead-off single and then scored on a base hit through the right side by Mackenzie Egan.

Game two started similar to the first, with the Moundbuilders grabbing an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the opening frame. This time the Bulldogs scored just one run in the next half-inning to tie the ball game.

In the top of the eighth, the Bulldogs loaded the bases setting the stage for Amanda Ambrosy, who tripled down the right-field line to put the Bulldogs on top.

Jordyn Johnson got the start in the circle for the Bulldogs (18-18, 11-11 KCAC) and threw eight innings with three strikeouts while allowing just one run on seven hits.

The Bulldogs wrap up the regular season on Tuesday (Apr. 25) with a road trip to Hillsboro, Kan., to take on the Tabor College Bluejays. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m.
