BUHLER, Kan. – Conditions were less than ideal for a tennis invitational Tuesday, as wind advisories surrounded Central Kansas. The Pups were able to battle the elements for a second place finish amongst a competitive 8-team invitational.

“The playing conditions were unbelievable.” said McPherson Head Coach Tyler Brown, who credited his team for managing the difficult circumstances all day long.

It was a solid day for the Mac double’s teams combining to go 6-2 on the day. Kayden McVicker and Alex Berger played in some hard-fought matches to go 3-1, claiming 3rd, while Viggo McHenry and Hunter Mendez also finished the day 3-1, claiming 5th.

“Although it was a complete team effort today, I thought Viggo and Hunter had a tremendous day going 3-1.” said Coach Brown, “They got a big win over Buhler’s number two doubles team, and whenever they were down they would find a way to fight and claw back into matches.”

The Bullpup Singles players of Ethan Elder and Bryson Archer both finished in the top 8, Brown noted, “Ethan and Bryson really had not played a lot of singles, so for both of them to make the quarterfinals was a big deal.”

McPherson will return to action Thursday, as they’re set to travel to Maize. Matches are set to begin at 1 p.m.
