BUHLER, Kan. – Voters in the Buhler USD 313 District rejected a proposed eight $8 million bond issue in a special election Tuesday. Unofficial numbers from the Reno County Clerk’s office indicated 954 votes against to 578 votes in favor, a 62-38 percent margin of defeat.
The proposal would have funded a new facility to house Ad Astra Academies, expansion of the Burkholder Administration Center to allow for the consolidation of district operations, and indoor activity center, along with playground improvements at the elementary schools.
Turnout for the special election was reported to be 15.76 percent of the district’s 9,725 registered voters. The vote totals from last night will not be official until Reno County Commissioners conduct a vote canvass next week.
The USD 313 Board of Education will discuss the outcome of the vote during a special meeting Wednesday at noon at Union Valley Elementary School, during which they also plan to deal with a number of personnel-related items.
