STERLING, Kan. – Inman and Sterling’s softball team split in their season opening doubleheader on Tuesday, as the Teutons claimed Game 1, 6-2, but Game 2 was controlled by the Bearcats, winning 18-1.
Inman’s Emma Brown had a great showing in her first game back after last year’s season-ending injury. She struck out 13 batters while allowing just four hits and a walk. Inman Head Coach Bre Ryan mentioned her playing with confidence and composure, adding, “ I saw a lot of great leadership from our seniors, and as a team, we were quick to bounce back after an error.”
Shklar Olsen got the start in the circle for Sterling, and after both teams exchanged a run early, the Teutons would collect five runs in third and fourth inning to separate themselves, and held Sterling to an additional run which came in the bottom of the seventh.
In Game two, the Bearcats opened the bottom of the first inning with 15 runs, and led 18-0 before the Teutons would collect the game’s final run in the third inning.
“Our bats struggled in game two, and we dug ourselves a big hole that was hard to come back from.” said Coach Ryan, “We will take the positives and learn from our mistakes so we can improve moving forward.” Ryan mentioned she looks forward to seeing how her team will compete the rest of the season.
Inman will return to action Friday, when they travel to Moundridge for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
Sterling has the rest of the week off, and will travel to Bennington next Tuesday for a doubleheader slatted for 3 p.m.
