On Monday, the McPherson Middle School Basketball teams would sweep Salina South in both 7th & 8th Grade A and B-Team Basketball games.
The 8th Grade A-Team would defeat Salina South 51-28 and following the game, MMS Head Coach Tyler Brown noted, “Tonight was a great night for the team. Everyone in the “A Book” was able to get in and contribute to a solid team win. Our defense was tremendous to start the game that gave us a solid lead early and we never really looked back.”
Brown is anticipating a good game on Thursday, when they play Hutchinson for the second time this season, he said. “They were one of our closest games this season, so it will be a good test for us on the road before we go back to Hutchinson on Saturday, for our first game of the A-Team Tournament to end our season.” With a win on Saturday, the Pups will be in the finals, which will be played on Monday.

The B-Team would defeat Salina South 46-22, beginning the game scoring the first 20 points, and following the game Coach David Goerzen said, “ We were playing aggressively, getting to every loose ball, causing turnovers, and it seemed like everyone was scoring. It’s always great to see your team play up to their potential.” He concluded by saying, “Hopefully we can keep it going into our last B-team game of the season on Thursday against Hutch.”

The 7th Grade A-Team defeated Salina South 31-19, but Head Coach Jay Crawford noted 19 turnovers and several missed layups, he said, “We will take the win and move onto Hutch on Thursday.” It will be the last time regular season game for the Pups as they will prepare for their end-of-season tournament. Crawford said, “We will need to have a few good days of practice and put in our game plan for Hutch.”
