MHS Freshman Conclude Season Winning AVCTL Tournament , JV Goes 1-2 Saturday

DERBY, Kan. – The McPherson High Freshman Volleyball team would be challenged Saturday in the League Tournament, but came out winning three sets in both matches of bracket play to take first.

The Pups would open Pool play by defeating Newton and Hutchinson in straight sets, before falling in a three set battle with Salina South. “We played very well throughout the morning, with lots of energy.” noted Coach Jamie Siess, “Moving into bracket play, I could tell the girls wanted to win and weren’t going to give up.” The Pups would battle Maize South, winning 25-21, 26-28, 15-13. They would then face Salina South in another three set duel. This time, it was the Bullpups winning 25-23,9-25, 15-13.

They conclude their season with an overall record of 25-11.

 

MAIZE, Kan. – The Bullpup JV would have a tough day, as they finished pool play 1-2.

MHS would suffer a three set loss to Newton, before defeating Derby in three. The Pups would conclude their day falling to Maize South 25-23, 25-23. Coach Kayla Singleton said, “We played very well due to a couple of unforeseen circumstances and battled together to fill the gaps. They worked hard through different setbacks and tried different plays to be successful. Singleton concluded by saying, “They only walked away with one win today, but they battled hard all day. It seems surreal to be rounding out our JV season next Tuesday, as we’re on the road to Wellington.”

Tuesday’s Triangular includes El Dorado, as Varsity and JV matches will begin at 5 p.m.
