McPHERSON, Kan. — Over 10,500 vehicles passed through McPherson’s Lakeside Park between the hours of 3 and 10 PM during the 36 days of the 2024 Lights From the Heartland Display.
In a report presented by Public Lands and Facilities Director Wayne Burns to the McPherson City Commission Tuesday, it was indicated the average number of vehicles going through the park per day was 293, with average daily attendance of 881. The most vehicles to go through the park was the 518 on Christmas Eve.
Park Department staff have indicated a desire to discuss ways to enhance the decorative lights, one idea for which involves installation of electric outlets on each pole north of Euclid Street, allowing for more displays along the water and sidewalk.
Many local businesses support the display including providing in-kind contributions and skilled labor for construction and installation of displays, and they are seeking even more of that in the future.
