Bullpup Wrestling Wraps Up First Invites of 2025

McPHERSON, Kan. – The McPherson High School Wrestling teams had a busy start to 2025 as the varsity teams had two invitationals on the road


Burlington Varsity Invitational

Both the girls and boys varsity wrestling teams finished in the top three in the Burling Invitational Sunday, Jan. 12.

The boys had a strong performance in the 33rd annual meet with a second place finish, finishing just behind Silver Lake. Sophomore Parker Hulvey (106) and seniors John Robben (120) and Jase Fitzmorris (175) each won their respective weight classes. Keaton Crane (132) and Brock Richardson (190) fell in their championship matches, but had a strong tournament to their name. Nathan Prescott (126) finished on the podium in 3rd, and Noah Garcia (113), Kaeson Curtis (138), Catch DeLaney (215), & Carter Leathers (285) each finished in 4th. Zack Elbert (144) and Carter Boesker (150) each contributed to team points as well.

The girls team finished in third place in the 8th Burlington LadyCat Invitational, finishing just behind Fort Scott and Wellsville. Ciara Rawson (235) was the lone Pup to finish in the top spot in their bracket, but multiple Bullpup girls wrestlers finished in the top six. Temperynce Bruner (145) finished 2nd, Lexi Patterson (11) and Amara Dossett (125) finished 3rd, Mercedes Ladwig (105) & Sydney Cummins (140) placed in 4th place. Molly Owen (130), Brooklyn Kutina (135), and Addie French (170) each earned the 5th spot in their respective class and Riley Sanchez-Fogarty (190) finished in 6th. Alix Wilson (100), Tylee Wilson (115), and Heidi Fairchild (155) did not place but each did contribute towards team points.


Tournament of Championships – Newton

Both the girls and boys wrestlers took to Newton the week after the Burlington invite to take on many prolific 4-6A schools.

The boys finished in the 29th spot overall in the 62nd annual invite. The team struggled some of the top wrestlers in the state, as most weight classes had reigning state champions. The only Bullpup boys wrestler to place was Jase Fitzmorris (175), who finished in 7th. However, multiple Bullpups did contribute towards team points, including Parker Hulvey (106), Noah Garcia (113), John Robben (120), Brock Richardson (190), Catch DeLaney (215), and Carter Leathers (285).

The McPherson girls had a great showing however, finishing in 13th out of 29 schools. Ciara Rawson (235) finished in 2nd and Lexi Patterson finished in 4th, being the only two Pups to place. Multiple others did contribute to team points however, including Alix Wilson (100), Mercedes Ladwig (105), Tylee Wilson (115), Amara Dossett (125), Molly Owen (130), Sydney Cummins (140), Temperynce Bruner (145), and Riley Sanchez-Fogarty (190).
