McPHERSON, Kan. (MacBulldogs.com) – A halftime was not enough for the Bulldogs on Saturday night (Jan 18) as they fell to the Avila University Eagles inside the Holman Fieldhouse, 73-52.

A strong first quarter from the Bulldogs helped them take an early lead as they held the Eagle to just 21% shooting from the field and an 0-6 clip from three point land. Come the second quarter, the Eagles shook off the cobwebs. Shooting 8-20 from the field while holding MC to 25% from the field, the Eagles cut the lead down but the Bulldogs never surrendered the lead.

The two sides went a combined 1-20 on their three point shots in the first half as the Bulldogs went into the locker room with a slim 24-23 lead, which marks the first time since the January 4 matchup against Evangel that the Bulldogs held the lead after the first 20 minutes of play.

Avila came out of the halftime break ready to roll. Thanks to a pair of three pointers and multiple MC turnovers, the Eagles used a 10-2 run to take the lead. It was all Avila from that point on as 22 turnovers and a poor shooting third quarter doomed the Bulldogs as they now drop to 0-18 on the season and 0-12 in KCAC play.

Gillian Rodgers led the scoring for MC with 14 points on 50% shooting from the field. Raeghan Borman chipped in an additional nine points while Amarion Tease scored eight.

The Bulldogs return to action on Wednesday, January 22 as they play host to Sterling College for the third and final game of this homestand. Tipoff is set for 6:00 p.m.
