McPHERSON, Kan. — The USD 418 Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on January 13, 2025.
The Board has scheduled two special meetings for January 16 and January 27 at 6:00PM to host Community Focus Groups. These groups are part of our ongoing strategic planning work. The Board invited a diverse group of families, staff, and community members to help guide the future of our schools. So far, this process has included surveys, feedback sessions and discussion, all aimed at looking at what we do well and where we can improve. The Board is committed to working together with the community to make sure our schools meet everyone’s needs.
Dr. Vincent provided updates on several topics:
- Inclement Weather and the Calendar: All buildings currently have at least two extra days above the 1,116 required hours.
- PowerSchool Security Breach: Families were notified earlier in January about a security breach involving PowerSchool. The breach is believed to have affected directory information, such as names and contact details. Between January 17 and January 24, PowerSchool will provide more details on the impact to USD 418 and will contact affected individuals directly. Those impacted will receive credit and identity theft monitoring services at no cost. No further action is required from the district or families at this time.
- Staffing Numbers: The HR team is preparing staffing data to share with the Board in the coming weeks.
The Board also approved an updated version of the McPherson Curriculum Council handbook. This handbook defines the council’s role in reviewing and approving curriculum, instructional programs, and assessments. Updates improve efficiency without changing the council’s overall structure or function. The Board approved extending Dr. Shiloh Vincent’s contract through the 2026-2027 school year.
