Haynes’ 22 Not Enough; Swedes Fall 97-86

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (BethanySwedes.com) – The Bethany College Swedes Men’s Basketball team took on the Evangel University Valor in a matchup of two teams in the middle of the pack in the KCAC standings. In what was a highly competitive contest, the Valor would come out victorious dropping the Swedes to 3-6 in conference play.

Kenny Haynes would draw his first start and made the most of it leading the Swedes with 22 points; his jersey number from earlier in the year. Emmanuel Akpan would have a solid game with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block. DeYon Bell secured a career-high in both points (15) and rebounds (14). Kendall Collins would dish out a team-high six assists.

The Swedes entered this one with their eighth different starting lineup so far this season. Bethany was on par with their field goal percentage for the season and made more field goals than Evangel, but the Valor won the free throw battle 28-7 which was the difference.

The Swedes will have a short turnaround as the have their rescheduled matchup with the Oklahoma Wesleyan University Eagles who are reeling on the midst of a three-game losing streak. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM Monday, January 13 in Bartlesville, Okla. following the completion of the women’s contest.
