Salthawk sports roundup: Boys wrestlers fare well in Emporia

The Hutchinson High boys wrestling team did well at the Emporia Winter Classic on Saturday. The Salthawks accumulated 210 points, finishing second and just one point behind Emporia.

Four Salthawks won their respective divisions, including Cooper Harris (150 pounds), Max Harris (157), Kade Smith (165) and Jackson Anderson (175).

The Harris twins and Smith remained undefeated in the young season.

Cooper Harris didn’t spend much time on the mat in his three wins. After receiving a first-round bye, Cooper Harris won all three matches by pin, spending a little more than 7 minutes on the mat.

Max Harris won his championship match pin, while Smith had two pins and one technical fall.

Anderson had two pins before winning the championship match in a 14-11 decision.

Boys swimming – The Salthawks came in second at a meet Thursday in Garden City, scoring 310.5 points.

The Salthawks won five events, led by the 200-yard freestyle relay team, which included Jordan Graham, Zae Guillen, Ethan Nichols and Logan Most. They finished in a time of 1 minute, 48.3 seconds.

Most also won the 200 freestyle (2:04.0) and 500 freestyle (5:55.35). Graham took first in the 200 individual medley (2:29.84) and 100 backstroke (1:09.37).

Boys basketball – The Salthawks finished the December slate on a three-game winning streak after Friday’s 68-35 win at Arkansas City.

The Salthawks are 3-1, with all three wins being by at least 16 points.

Girls basketball – The Salthawks lost their first game of the season Friday at undefeated Arkansas City, 41-39, after winning their first three games all by double digits.

Hutchinson is now 3-1.
