The McPherson Bullpups and Buhler Crusaders both finished in the top five of the KSHSAA 4A Girls State Golf Tournament in Hesston on Monday and Tuesday. The two-day affair was won by Topeka-Hayden, claiming their second straight state championship with a team score of 698. Wellington was second at 713, followed by McPherson in third with 727. Augusta took fourth place with a 729 and Buhler was fifth at 744.
Individually, Addison Douglass of Wamego was the state champion, shooting a 142 over two days, ten strokes ahead of Lilli Sympson of Winfield in second place at 152. McPherson’s Brodie Kuhn brought home the fifth place medal with a 159 and Anika Paulsrud of Buhler finished ninth at 163. Also medaling in the top 20 were Andi Buschbom of McPherson in a tie for 12th (171) and Delaney Hastings of Chanute tied for 18th (176).
In 3-2-1A at Emporia, St. Mary’s Colgan out of Pittsburg and Silver Lake finished in a tie at the top of the leaderboard at 718, but in a fifth-score tiebreaker, Colgan took home the team championship. Individually, Amelia Bowles of Rawlins County won the state title with a two-day score of 147, one stroke ahead of Margaret Ulrich of Colby in second place at 148. From the Ad Astra Radio area, Jayhawk-Linn’s Celeste Schneider finished in a tie for ninth with a 174 and Larned’s Erin Tims tied for 14th at 181.
In 5A at Salina Municipal, Kapaun-Mt. Carmel won the team championship at 639, ahead of St. James Academy in second with a 647. Individually, Ximena Sarinana of Kapaun took home the championship, shooting a 142 over two days, which was two strokes better than Regan Dusenbery of Andover at 144. Newton’s Naomi Koontz was just five strokes back from first, finishing third with a score of 147.
