DODGE CITY, Kan. (BartonSports.com) – A late Adna Mahdi header Wednesday evening salvaged a 2-2 draw for the 17th ranked Barton Community College women’s soccer team’s season and conference opener at Dodge City Community College.

Barton will next host upstart Highland Community College in a 1:30 p.m. Saturday kick at the Cougar Soccer Complex before a quick turnaround for a Sunday trek to El Dorado in a 7:00 p.m. kick-off at 12th ranked Butler Community College.

Outshot in the first half, Barton ended on the plus side of the final statline 16-13 in shots and 8-6 on frame to keep Dodge City from its first win on a 0-1-1 early season start.

The initial goal came with 6:46 left in the opening stanza as Dodge City capitalized on a south wind and 40-yard free kick scratching the underneath of the crossbar and just over the leaping net tender Mio Tanaka.

Down to the final twelve minutes, Katie Potter netted the equalizer on a nifty chip pass around the Conquistador goalkeeper for her first collegiate goal. The play was set up by Orlane Guillou winning a mid-field battle sending a high pass forward to Potter, a play eerily similar to six minutes prior when Potter’s chip over the keeper missed just wide of the post.

The tie lasted just three minutes with the home squad jumping back in front as a 30-yard forward pass sent two Cougars and a Conquistador racing to the ball resulting in Dodge City a strike past the outreached arms of Tanaka.

As the clock ticked down, Dodge City was unable to clear Kayla Methman‘s deep throw-in as the ball bounced off a pair of Conquistadors before Mahdi’s header for her 2nd career goal blasted past the keeper inside post netting the equalizer with just 34 ticks left.
