Volleyball Dragons Drop KJCCC Opener at Butler

EL DORADO, Kan. (BlueDragonSports.com) – The Hutchinson Community College volleyball team’s 16-match road trip to start the season hit a speed bump on Wednesday night in its Jayhawk Conference opener at Butler.

The Blue Dragons couldn’t overcome a slow offensive start and were swept by the Grizzlies 25-10, 25-16, 25-23 at the Power Plant.

Hutchinson fell to 2-3 overall and 0-1 in the KJCCC. Butler is 3-2 and 1-0. The Blue Dragons continue their long road trip to start the season with this weekend with four matches at the McCook Invitational in McCook, Nebraska. The Blue Dragons will play No. 9 Indian Hills, Lamar, Western Nebraska and North Platte this weekend.

Sophomore right-side hitter Tiana Simmons led the Blue Dragons offensively with nine kills. Freshman outside hitter Atlyn Proctor had seven kills and freshman outside Viktoria Graf had six kills, two block assists and six digs.

Sophomore middle blocker McKenzie Murphy had a team-high three blocks. Sophomore middle Precious Johnson had one solo block.

Freshman setter Ellie Suber had 18 assists. Freshman libero Addy Foster had a team-high nine digs and two service aces.
