PROVIDENCE, R.I. (KUAthletics.com) – The Kansas Jayhawks and Brown Bears match on Monday at Stevenson-Pincince Field ended in a no contest after play was suspended with 34:09 remaining in the second half due to lightning in the area. Kansas was leading 1-0 at the time play was suspended. For a match to be counted as an official game, the game must reach 70 minutes.
The Jayhawks were able to get on the board in the 22nd minute. Freshman Shae Ryan sent a cross into the box and fellow freshman Kate Langfelder was able to get on the end of it. Langfelder put it in the bottom left corner of the net for her first career goal. That made it 1-0 in favor of Kansas. That is where the score remained at the break.
The second half began but was stopped in the 56th minute due to lightning within an eight-mile radius. Following a nearly two-hour delay, the match was called and ruled a no contest. It will not be resumed or made up.
