SEDGWICK, Kan. — Multiple agencies responded to a HazMat scene at the Sedgwick Elementary School on west 4th this afternoon. Newton Fire/EMS responded at approximately 1:30 PM for a reported structure fire but didn’t find one upon arrival. However, a Freon leak in the HVAC system was discovered. Sedgwick County Fire District 1 responded with a HazMat unit and tested freon levels in the building. No toxic levels were detected and there are no reports of injuries at this time.
