MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. — Moundridge area emergency personnel rescued a 14-month-old child Sunday who was trapped underground inside a PVC pipe.

In a release Tuesday, the Moundridge Police Department shared that they responded, along with Moundridge EMS and the Moundridge Fire Department just before 2 p.m. and found the child, who appeared to be upright at the bottom of the 12-inch pipe.

Police Officer Wagner constructed a makeshift catch pole using a smaller pipe and rope which proved to be instrumental in lifting the child safely from the pipe. The child, while understandably shaken, was unharmed and is once again safe.

The Police Department extended their deepest gratitude to all the first responders for their swift and effective action that transferred a dangerous situation into a successful rescue.
