Sam Wiese singled home Jarrett Flaggert with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday, capping a three-run ninth inning, sending the Hutchinson Monarchs to a dramatic 6-5 win over the Diamond Kings at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Monarchs trailed 5-3 going into the bottom of the ninth, but quickly mounted a rally. Blake Bradford led off and walked, and Jaden Gustafson’s doubled to right field brought in Bradford.
Flaggert followed with another double, which tied the game 5-5. Following a ground out that moved Flaggert to third base, Wiese’s single ended the game.
The ninth inning was one of two three-run innings for the Monarchs. They also scored three in second inning, building a 3-0 lead. Austin Coyle’s double drove in the first run. Camden Johnson followed with an RBI groundout, and Bradford added an RBI single.
The Monarchs continue a busy stretch of nine games in nine days by taking a trip Monday to Newton. They return home at 7 p.m. Wednesday to play Newton.
