Drew Bugner’s two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie, and the Hutchinson Monarchs swept the Haysville Aviators in a two-game set, winning 6-4 on Wednesday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Monarchs raced to an early 3-0 lead, but Haysville took a 4-3 lead after scoring four in the top of the fifth. But Jarrett Flaggert answered with a solo home run for the Monarchs.
The game remained tied until Bugner’s double in the seventh inning, which scored Sam Wiese and Austin Coyle.
Carson Cornelius was the winning pitcher, as he struck out eight in relief.
The Monarchs are now 16-5 this season. They will take Thursday off and return to Hobart-Detter Field at 7 p.m. Friday to take on Dirtbag Baseball.
