Cooper Harris hit a double with two outs in the top of the ninth inning Sunday, scoring Blake Bradford, and the Hutchinson Monarchs beat the Kingman Islanders 3-2 on Sunday in Kingman.
The win completed a sweep of the two-game series for the Monarchs, who improved to 10-5.
When Bradford scored, it was the first time the Monarchs led since the top of the first inning. After Bradford scored on a passed ball, Kingman answered with two runs in the bottom of the first inning.
That lead held until the fourth inning when Bradford’s single scored Cooper Wesslund. The teams trading zeros on the scoreboard until the ninth inning.
With one out Bradford walked. Then, with two outs, Harris belted a double to center field on a 1-2 pitch, scoring Bradford.
The Monarchs outhit Kingman 5-4, and the Islanders mustered just two hits after the first inning.
Garrett Folmar pitched five solid innings for the Monarchs, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out five. Kamden Edge earned the win by throwing three hitless innings and striking out eight. Derick Johnson earned the save by pitching a scoreless ninth.
The Monarchs start a three-game homestand at 7 p.m. Monday at Hobart-Detter Field against Great Bend.
