McPHERSON, Kan. — Dad Daniel’s Liquor had a packed house at their Chamber Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, June 6, 2024.

McPherson Chamber of Commerce Ambassador Casey Justus with Ad Astra Radio welcomed all to the ribbon cutting ceremony for the owners of Dad Daniel’s Liquor, Wilson sisters (Amy Wilson and Kim Hoover), who bought the business previously known as First Street Liquor in October of 2023.

“The Wilsons are some entrepreneurial people.” Justus said. “Basically, drive anywhere in McPherson and you’re going to see a Wilson-owned business. They wear many hats, all of them, so we’re very excited to have a Wilson-ran liquor store in town.”

Chamber past president Tiffani Floyd, with Four Seasons Realtors and Culver’s Wines & Spirits presented the Wilson sisters with their First Dollar of Profit.

“I want to thank you guys on behalf of the Chamber for investing in the Chamber of Commerce,” Floyd said.

Amy Wilson shared that when First Street Liquor went on the market, the liquor store was something she and her sister wanted to pursue together. She added that the two felt like it was part of their community and they wanted to restore it back to what it was many years ago.

“And it was a chance for us to work together as sisters,” Kim Hoover added.

They knew the name of the liquor store had to change to indicate new ownership, and there is an interesting backstory to why they landed on “Dad Daniel’s Liquor.”

“Jim Wilson, the one and only…We got the name from him,” Hoover said. “He has loved Jack Daniels since Amy and I can remember.”

The sisters started calling him “Dad Daniels” a few years back when he had a “few too many cocktails” and the name stuck.

There are many plans for the future of Dad Daniel’s Liquor and Amy Wilson shared that one of the up-and-coming projects for the business is a new website that they plan to launch by the end of June.

“You’re going to be able to do curbside pickup through it and then the other option is going to be ‘Pack My Coolers,’” Wilson said. “Going out to the lake with friends, if it’s not something you do regularly, you can place the order we’ll pack the cooler you pick it up from us, you return the cooler when you’re done.

As you enter the liquor store, you’ll notice that they also have a variety of cups with drinks and little shots to choose from.

“That way you can just get one drink rather than having to buy a big bottle of something and a Coke,” Wilson added. “You can just have one cup to go.”

For 21st birthday celebrations, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or other holidays they have gift bags that they put together as well as bags with instructions on how to make your own Jello shots of various flavors.

Lastly the sisters thanked their parents, families, employees, community and customers for all of their love, support they have shown so far.

Currently, the liquor store is fully staffed and will be for the Fall.

Wilson introduced two employees who were at the ribbon cutting: Amanda and Newton. Two others, McKenna and Aiden weren’t present Thursday.

Two of the employees are McPherson College students who Wilson said she is grateful for since they have muscles and can help lift heavy boxes for them.

“We couldn’t do it without them, that’s for sure,” she said.

Mayor Tom Brown congratulated the sisters on the business and added that it’s great that they are finding jobs for college students as well.
