The head of Kansas’ Broadband Development program is out. Jade Piros de Carvalho, a former Hutchinson Mayor and City Council member, has confirmed in a social media post made Thursday she was terminated from the position earlier this week.
In the LinkedIn post Piros de Carvalho said she was told Tuesday afternoon her job was on the line after making what has been reported on some news blog sites as an “unprofessional comment” to someone who “made a phone call.” She declined to say who that was or what exactly she said, but acknowledged the comment was unprofessional and should not have been made, but added she was flabbergasted that would lead to her termination.
Piros de Carvalho said she does not have any immediate plans at this time.
Piros de Carvalho had been working for Buhler-based IdeaTek when she was tabbed in 2022 by Secretary of Commerce and Lieutenant Governor David Toland to lead the Office of Broadband Development. She served nearly nine years on the Hutchinson City Council prior to resigning from it in January 2023, after serving as Hutchinson’s Mayor in 2022.
