About Ad Astra Radio

Ad Astra per Aspera Broadcasting, Inc. prides itself on being under the same ownership and management longer than any other radio station group in Kansas. As Ad Astra Radio becomes a 2nd generation company, it has a long history of development and growth. It all started in 1986, with the purchase of 106.1 FM, a Lyons radio station, that was moved to 106 N. Main St. in Hutchinson and became KSKU. But the growth didn’t stop there…

  • In 1995, Ad Astra Radio developed a second station, which was KGGG-Oldies 94.7.vintage radio

  • In 1998, Ad Astra Radio developed a third station, 97.1 FM that became Hit Radio KSKU, and Kicks Country 106.1 FM-KXKU became a reality!

  • In 2007: 97.1 FM was sold!

Hit Radio moved from 97.1 FM to 94.7 FM-KSKU!

Oldies moved from 94.7 FM to 95.9 FM-KWHK!

Ad Astra Radio acquired 100.3 FM-KNZS and Kansas Rocks was born!

Needless to say, Ad Astra Radio has seen some amazing growth and accomplishments in providing a wide range of music to suit the area’s listeners. Unfortunately, this all came to an abrupt halt on September 2, 2011, when a devastating fire destroyed the offices and studios at 106 N. Main St. This was just one month before Ad Astra Radio would have celebrated their 25th anniversary in that location.

But even a fire of that magnitude was not going to slow Ad Astra Radio down. In less than 30 days, Ad Astra Radio was back on the air and getting settled in their new building at 10 East 5th Avenue. Today, they are even stronger than before the devastating fire.

“Our goal at Ad Astra Radio is to provide our listeners in central Kansas with excellent local news, weather, and sports coverage, play great music, be as productive and efficient as possible, and offer our customers the best VALUE in advertising in central Kansas!”
